When my daughter was studying abroad in France, I went for a visit. After we saw the tourist spots like the Eiffel Tower and The Louvre, we headed to Barcelona for the week. This was a great decision as I fell in love with Barcelona! The following are some of the sites that are worth visiting.
La Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia is a large unfinished Roman Catholic basilica in Barcelona, Spain. The structure was designed by Antoni Gaudi and the construction began in 1882. The building is projected to be completed in 2026 with the decorative detail to be finished by 2034. The project is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which are locations that are recognized for their exceptional cultural or natural importance.
There are 18 towers representing biblical figures with the central towers representing Jesus. There are 3 main facades. Nativity represents the birth of Christ, Passion represents the death of Christ, and Glory represents the resurrection of Christ. Photos are permitted inside, however, no flash photography.

There is a dress code to respect before entering the basilica. There are no see through clothing allowed. Trousers and skirts must come down to at least mid-thigh on your legs. You must bring your passport or identifying document.
Why has it taken so long to build? The church relied on donations to fund the project. The Spanish Civil War disrupted the donations. The construction is actually illegal as the builders received no permit. During the design, there are no straight lines in the structure.
Barcelona Zoo

We checked out the Barcelona Zoo and the above picture is a map of the layout of the park. At the top of the map is a list of the species at the park. The day that we were at the park not many of the animals were out and it seemed like the park needed some repairs. I guess we were spoiled with the zoo in our home area. Still worth checking out with smaller kids.
Barceloneta Beach and Restaurants

Pictures of the beautiful beach in Barcelona which the natives call Barceloneta. We were there in February so it was a little cold to get in the water. However, a beach is always a perfect time to take pictures leaping in the air from the sand. Doesn’t everyone do that?
Across from the beach area, there is a walkway along the beach on the right hand side and on the left hand side, there is a string of restaurants that have both indoor and outdoor seating. A variety of restaurants to match any tastes. ‘
L’Aquarium de Barcelona

One of my favorite things to do is to visit aquariums, This is a Mediterranean aquarium showcasing species in the Mediterranean area. There are cases of tropical seas and the children’s area.
Planet Aqua is an Oceanarium where there are tanks that have stingrays and eagle rays. The tanks are a 20,000 liter open air tank. The aquarium has a guided tour and experiences with sharks.

Montjuic Cable Car
Do you want to see a view of Barcelona? Ride the Montjuic cable car for a panoramic view of the city. Get the taste of Montjuic mountain, museums, parks and gardens and amazing views. Well worth the ride!!
