If you are a traveler, you know that a great travel partner can make or break a trip. You want someone that shares your interests that will make your trip special. If the trip doesn’t go well, is it them or is it me??
1. Agenda
When I was a teenager traveling with my family, my father would jot down a schedule on a yellow memo pad that we would follow on our vacation. The memo pad was chock full of activities which would make the trip fun. I have evolved somewhat and while I do not have a written agenda, I do have a plan numerous spots to visit while on vacation.
2. Sightseeing
I am a firm believer in going on vacation and taking time away from your routine. At the same time, I am also a believer of making the most of your vacation time by filling it with as much sightseeing you can for the area that you are visiting. Of course, everyone else is usually ready for a break long before I am. When the trip is over, I am ready to go back to work to get some rest!
3. History
I am a big history buff and one thing I love is museums and it doesn’t really matter what type of museum it is. Historical, aquariums, science, you name it. Luckily, my husband is just as a big museum lover as I am. Once when I was working in Washington D.C. for a couple of weeks, I was in heaven with all the museums that are on the National Mall. Of course, there are other places to see on vacation.
4. Eating
It always seems that while on vacation you eat more than you do when you are at home. Of course you want to try all the great food in different states as well as the world. About 3 years ago, I had a health condition and I lost 30 pounds. The result was a healthy lifestyle and eating smaller meals/snacks throughout the day. This new found healthy lifestyle doesn’t lend itself well while on vacation. So generally I am not really ready to eat as often as other travelers.
5. Quick-Pull Over
As a blogger, I take a lot of pictures and videos whether I am on vacation or not. Although when I am on trips, most of the day is taking pictures. When we are driving somewhere and I see a great shot, I yell out “Quick-Pull Over!” At first, my husband was annoyed with it and now he will pull over before I yell it out.
- Not everyone travels with an agenda so enjoy the vacation time at more of a moderate rate and appreciate the breathtaking views.
- While sightseeing, remember to take breaks and hydrate yourself. You might catch some breathtaking views while you are on break. Good chance to people watch!
- While soaking up the history of your vacation site, also throw in a lot of nature and physical activity.
- Take advantage of the great cuisine of the area. If you want a full meal like the rest of the party, try ordering an appetizer instead of a full meal.
- For photographs, they might just have to get used to all the pictures. There should be at least one photographer in the group to capture all the memories.
